Truck Week Event Registration
| Proposed event name | From the Cab to the Lab! How Emerging Technologies, Artificial Intelligence and Insights into Human Behaviour Are Reshaping Heavy Vehicle Safety |
| Event format | online |
| Short description | This live, facilitated online event brings heavy vehicle safety research to life through an engaging, hands-on interactive experience grounded in three complementary projects: Wide Awake, Fit for Fleet Safety, and Drive S(AI)FE. The session is designed as an interactive digital experience rather than a traditional presentation. Participants will work through practical scenarios, explore real-world challenges, and engage with tools and concepts that can be applied within their own operational contexts. Aligned with the People theme, the event brings workforce perspectives to the forefront by engaging participants with insights drawn from direct work with drivers, small operators, and fleet managers. Attendees will explore how real-world conditions shape safety outcomes, decision-making, and behaviours on the road. Aligned with the Safety theme, the event enables participants to examine the interconnected factors contributing to heavy vehicle incidents, including fatigue risk, organisational pressure, and the usability of safety systems. Through interactive scenarios, participants will explore how these risks emerge across systems and environments, and how they can be more effectively managed in practice. Aligned with the Innovation theme, the event provides participants with exposure to emerging approaches including wearable technology, co-designed digital toolkits, and AI-assisted fatigue monitoring. Participants will engage with how these innovations can support safer decision-making when designed with end users in mind. Content draws on research from programs funded through The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator’s (NHVR) Heavy Vehicle Safety Initiative, supported by the Australian Government, with a focus on translating evidence into practical, accessible insights for industry. The event is suitable for drivers, fleet operators, safety professionals, and others involved in heavy vehicle operations seeking to better understand and respond to fatigue and safety risk in practice. |

| Why participate | We’re keen to contribute to Truck Week because it provides a valuable opportunity to engage directly with the people and organisations working to improve safety across Australia’s road freight industry. Our work focuses on applying human-centred design to real heavy vehicle safety challenges, and Truck Week creates the perfect forum to share research insights, learn from industry experience, and collaborate on practical solutions that support safer operations for drivers and transport operators. |
