Truck Awareness Program

James Shaw’s Truck Awareness Program is bringing a practical heavy vehicle safety display to the heart of the University of Queensland’s St Lucia campus for Truck Week 2026.

Using a prime mover, car and mannequin, the display gives students and members of the public the chance to sit in the driver’s seat and see first-hand what truck drivers can – and cannot – see from the cab.

The program focuses on key road-sharing messages, including blind zones, braking distances, weather conditions and safer behaviour around heavy vehicles.

With strong foot traffic through the campus forecourt, James hopes to get as many “bums in seats” as possible and help more road users understand the realities of sharing the road with trucks.

James has previously delivered the program at community events, including Lights on the Hill and Convoy for Kids, where more than 200 people experienced the view from the driver’s seat.
