From the Cab to the Lab: Where People and AI Meet Safety

Hosted by Opposite | Online

How can research, technology and human-centred design help make heavy vehicle operations safer in the real world?

This interactive online Truck Week session brings together practical insights from three complementary safety research programs — Wide Awake, Fit for Fleet Safety, and Drive S(AI)FE — to explore how people, systems, environments and emerging technologies all shape safety outcomes across the heavy vehicle sector.

Rather than a traditional presentation, participants will be guided through practical scenarios and real-world challenges, with a focus on fatigue risk, organisational pressure, safety system usability, wearable technology, co-designed digital tools and AI-assisted fatigue monitoring.

Hosted by Opposite’s Damien and Duygu, the session will highlight how human-centred design can translate behavioural science and operational insight into tools that drivers, fleet operators and safety professionals can trust and use.

The session draws on research from programs funded through the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator’s Heavy Vehicle Safety Initiative, supported by the Australian Government.

This is a Truck Week event for anyone interested in safer, smarter and more practical approaches to heavy vehicle safety — from operators and safety managers to researchers, technology providers and industry leaders.
